Edit a prompt
You can change the text of any prompt the app sends to a language model, then reset it back to the shipped version at any time.
Open the prompt manager
- Open the settings window: push Settings in the setup menu, or push Ctrl+,.
- Select the LLM prompts category.
- Push the button of the Prompt manager row.
The manager lists every prompt by key. Each row shows a badge — Factory, App, or Project — for where its active text comes from.
Edit the text
- Select a prompt to open the editor.
- Change the name, description, or body.
- The editor saves when you leave a field. Your first edit creates an override at the current scope, so the badge changes from Factory to App (or Project). This is normal — the shipped version is never lost.
The editor lists the variables a prompt accepts (for example {{planPath}}). Keep these
tokens in the body. The app fills each one in at send time. A body with a missing token
still sends, but the token stays visible in the message.
Reset to the factory version
- Open the prompt.
- Select Reset to factory.
- Confirm in the menu.
Reset removes your override and reveals the tier below — ultimately the shipped factory text.
A note on load-bearing prompts
One prompt, core.trove.claude-md, carries Trove's operating rules (commit discipline, no
push or rebase, text-only interface). The editor shows a warning banner on this prompt.
You can still edit it, but a wrong change can break Trove's autonomous sessions. Use
Reset to factory to restore it.
