MidpointVerdicts

The field's verdict on an edge, by the position of its midpoint.

Detailed description

confirmFeaturesAgainstField and promoteFieldCreases sample the field at the midpoint of each edge, and each verdict depends on that point alone. A remesh analyzes its mesh before each split, collapse and flip pass, and most edges keep their midpoint from one pass to the next. The cache keeps the verdicts of one analysis for the next, so only a new or a moved edge samples the field again (construct-mesh-quality §IM-12). A kept verdict is the one a new sample gives, so the mesh does not change. One cache serves one function with one probe distance, band and angle.
