Detailed description

Discovery is the mechanism in which nodes seek out and establish secure connections with each other. Pairing is the mechanism in which the user will assign a level of trust to already discovered nodes.

Discovery proceeds as follows:

  • Physical proximity is established (NFC, QR scanner, Bluetooth, Zoo, LAN)
  • Pairing signatures and public keys are exchanged
  • Pairing challenge/responses are exchanged to verify legitimacy
  • Identicon for signatures is shown for user verification
  • Optionally: multifactor authentications are conducted
  • The list of nodes is updated to show the security level of each node

Glossary:

  • Discovery: Automatic process where nodes find each other and exchange details to verify identity.
  • Pairing: Manual process where the operator assigns trust to a previously discovered node.
  • Node: Any participant in an OctoMY network (Agent, Hub, Remote).
  • Birth/Delivery: Transition of a node from uninitialized to initialized.
