An implementation receives text through appendLog(). setLogDirection() sets the direction in which new lines are added; its parameter is named down. The interface holds no state.
LogDeviceNoop is the only implementation in the tree, and no code currently writes through a LogDevice. LogWidget and LogStorage are the live logging path.
